CAE/Advanced Courses
High-level, hard-working courses are available throughout the year and students may start on any Monday during term time for a minimum of two weeks.
The syllabus will include:
Reading Skills
You will learn how to approach and understand a number of texts taken from books, newspapers and magazines. You will learn how to show understanding of gist, main points, detail, text structure or specific information, deduce meaning or recognise opinion and attitude.
Listening Skills
You will gain skills in understanding the meaning of spoken English and to extract detailed and specific information from the spoken text and to understand speakers' attitudes and opinions. You will focus on texts taken from a variety of text types including interviews, discussions, lectures and conversations.
Speaking Skills
We will improve your ability to interact in conversational English in a range of contexts. It contains four parts, including an interview section, individual long turns, a collaborative task and a discussion. You are provided with stimulus materials such as photographs and drawings. You will normally take the Speaking Test in pairs.
Writing Skills
You will learn the valuable skills of writing reports, letters of application, leaflets, formal and informal letters, articles, memos, book/film reviews, brochures and letters of application. These skills are both essential to the CAE and CPE as well as fundamental for university and business.
